Responding to growing interest in pinsa across UK retail, hospitality and food-to-go, EPP has taken Minipan’s specialist production technology and expertise on tour, helping producers explore the commercial potential of this emerging product category.
Bringing specialist expertise to UK and Irish producers
Minipan is one of the specialist European manufacturers represented by EPP in the UK and Ireland. Based in Massa Lombarda, Italy, the company develops standalone machines and complete industrial lines for bread, pizza, pinsa, bread snacks, biscuits and gluten-free products. Its dedicated technologies can process the highly hydrated doughs used to create pinsa’s characteristic light, open texture. Through EPP, UK producers can access this specialist technology alongside local technical knowledge, project support and aftersales expertise.
The pinsa tour reflects EPP’s wider approach to connecting UK food producers with specialist knowledge and the latest processing technologies from leading European manufacturers. By bringing demonstrations, products and technical expertise directly to customer sites, EPP helps manufacturers explore new market opportunities and make informed investment decisions based on practical results.
Showcasing pinsa at customer sites
During the tour, the EPP team visited customer sites with untopped pinsa bases produced using Minipan equipment. The bases were topped and baked fresh during each visit, enabling customers to assess the texture, flavour, appearance and versatility of the finished product in their own environment. The demonstrations showcased the range and quality that can be achieved with Minipan technology, while providing an opportunity to discuss potential applications and production requirements with each customer.
Unlocking pinsa’s commercial potential
Pinsa is a Roman-style flatbread known for its light, open texture. As the format becomes more visible across UK retail, hospitality and food-to-go, EPP is helping producers understand both the commercial opportunity and the specialist processes and technologies required to manufacture it consistently at scale.
The food-to-go sector presents a particularly interesting opportunity. In addition to traditional topped products, pinsa can be developed in filled and sandwich-style formats suited to convenient lunchtime and snacking occasions. With access to Minipan’s specialist technology and EPP’s local market and technical knowledge, producers can explore formats that add something distinctive to their ranges.
Supporting investment through practical trials
The tour also demonstrates EPP’s practical approach to equipment demonstrations and product trials. For products involving highly hydrated doughs, long fermentation times and specialist handling requirements, can make products difficult to transport and test elsewhere. Evaluating them in, testing within the producer’s own environment can therefore provide a much more realistic view of product quality and production performance.
By taking products, equipment or technical expertise directly to customer sites, depending on the scale and nature of the project, EPP provides producers access to the latest technologies from its specialist European partners with the reassurance of local guidance and support. This helps manufacturers evaluate new opportunities and make informed investment decisions based on practical results.
Michael Lomas, Technical Sales Manager at EPP, commented: “Part of EPP’s role is to identify emerging opportunities for UK producers and give them direct access to the specialist knowledge and technologies needed to respond. With interest in pinsa growing, this tour enabled us to bring Minipan’s expertise directly to customers and demonstrate the quality and versatility that can be achieved.”
“The visits also gave our team the opportunity to discuss how the technology could fit within each producer’s operation. EPP provides more than access to equipment; we work with customers to understand their products, production requirements and ambitions before helping them identify the right solution.”
